Washington, 30 ene (EFE).- Al menos dos personas han resultado muertas por las tormentas y tornados que han recorrido hoy desde el medio oeste hasta el sureste de EE.UU., dejando un rastro de cortes de electricidad, cientos de coches volcados y numerosos daños materiales.
Uno de las personas fallecidas perdió la vida cuando el edificio donde se encontraba en el condado de Bartow, al norte de Atlanta (Georgia), se vino abajo.
La otra murió a causa de un árbol derribado por los fuertes vientos sobre su casa en Nashville, Tenesí.
En Georgia, en la localidad de Adairsville, un tornado asoló varios edificios y volcó numerosos vehículos, y nueve personas sufrieron heridas, según informa el diario local Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Según los meteorólogos las malas condiciones climatológicas se deben a la confluencia de un frente de aire caliente procedente del Golfo de México con uno frío que baja desde el noroeste.
Casi una decena de estados se han visto afectados entre ayer y hoy, entre ellos, Arkansas, Kentucky, Indiana, Misuri y Misisipi, donde se estima que varias decenas de miles de hogares se encuentran sin suministro eléctrico.
El Servicio Meteorológico de EE.UU. ha decretado una alerta de fuertes tormentas para la región sureste del país, y se espera que el sistema tormentoso se desplace a lo largo de la tarde hacia Virginia y Carolina del Norte.
